Polymer-based waste treatment has become one of the most important issues in terms of environmental sustainability in recent decades. Pyrolysis of polymeric materials is becoming a more popular method of waste treatment. Unlike other recycling methods, which only temporarily deallocate polymers (addition to building materials, etc.) with a persistent risk of hazardous substances such as PCBs, pyrolysis can effectively degrade polymer waste into secondary raw materials that are fully consumable in current industrial production. An example of such consumption is the use of pyrolytic carbon in the reduction phase of zinc oxide production. The proposed solution is an environmentally friendly modification of the American rotary furnace process for producing zinc oxide, decreasing the consumption of fossil fuels such as coal and coke.
